Important Announcement for 2007-2008 season
From: Bill Steigerwald
To: Board #11 General Membership
Subject: Goals and Committees for 2007-2008
My goal is to develop a diverse group of committee chairpersons that will provide the general membership and executive board with ideas and solutions. Below is a selection of standing committees as defined by our By-laws with additional committees and assignments that were put in place previously or will be new for the current year.
I encourage any or all members to consider these as opportunities to become more involved in the operations of Board #11.
Please remember, each committee membership or chairperson will be making a commitment of time and effort.
This is an opportunity for those of you who feel left out and uninformed to take a step to correct that. We need your participation to make Board #11 the best Official's organization in the region.
Would you like to volunteer for one of the committees listed below? Do you have a suggestion for something you can’t find here? Please send me a note with your suggestions, ideas or desire to help by May 31, 2007 to: bsteiger@delawareonline.com .
Come back and visit the site frequently during the year for Board #11 news, organizational updates, and the meeting schedules.
Committees
Ratings – The ratings committee members be responsible for:
Review the qualifications of all-new applicants, transfer and interim members to determine whether the parson qualifies to be a member of the Board.
Assist in administering the IAABO examination.
Establish the rating criteria by which each member will be judged to determine the members rating for each basketball year.
Make available to all members the rating criteria.
Rate each member of the Board and classify that member into the appropriate rating category.
To select any varsity level rated member to be godfather’s for the Board. It shall be the duty of the chairperson of the Rating Committee to make a motion to the Board to approve the godfather’s selected.
Workshop – The workshop committee members have the following responsibility:
The Workshop Committee shall consist of at least four (4) active members of the Board who are rated in group 1R and 1U. The chairperson shall be a group 1R official. The committee is responsible for educating the members in the area of floor mechanics, bench decorum, and signals. The committee should conduct at least three (3) workshops with the prospective and 3B members prior to the start of the basketball season. At least two (2) of the meetings shall be on the court. The Federation Official’s manual will be the reference text for the committee. The committee shall work in conjunction with the Interpreter to cover areas of instruction not specifically covered in the official’s manual. This committee should work closely with both the Interpreter and Ratings Committee.
Constitution and By-laws:
The Constitution and By-laws Committee shall periodically review the Constitution and by-lays of the Board in order to determine if same are in compliance with the best interest of the members of the Board. The committee shall be responsible for incorporating all amendments into the constitution and by-laws as adopted by the Board from time to time. The committee shall also have the responsibility of interpreting and Article, Section or term of this constitution or the constitution of the International Office in the event the Executive Committee or any other member requests and interpretation thereof. Said interpretation shall be approved by a majority vote of the members of the Executive Committee before being adopted as an official interpretation of any term or provision of this Constitution.
Assignment Committee:
This committee has the responsibility to determine the guidelines that will be followed by the League and School assigners. This committee should work closely with the Assignors and Ratings committee.
Tournament Committee:
I would like to have a tournament chair with two additional people to work as Delaware Men and Women’s tournament representatives. The Committee chair will be responsible for Cecil County. This committee will develop a method for selecting officials qualified to work the different level of games within the tournaments.
Recognition Committee:
This committee will identify a recognition program for officials of all levels. The members will identify officials, who have, among other things, reached certain service levels, exceeded expectations or some other such stuff.
Incident Committee:
The Vice President chairs this committee. We need several volunteers to assist Steve Meeker. I’d like all recommendations for any discipline to come through this committee. I would also like this committee to review all board disciplinary measures, including fines, with recommendations on better ways to encourage each member to live up to his/her responsibilities without punitive measures.
Public Relations Committee:
This is a committee that will handle publicity, charity, volunteer, and other requests.
DIOC Member:
This member will meet with the Delaware Interscholastic Officials Council (DIOC). This person will represent Board #11.
Sergeant At Arms:
This is an officer appointed to keep order within the organization at General Membership meetings. The reason we gather with the General Membership is to share information for the upcoming season. Unfortunately, there are so many sidebar discussions going on that speakers cannot be heard. When this occurs people who listen and those who don’t miss very important information. We don’t meet that often and must keep order.
